I've decided to elect a moderator to delete the trash posts for instance like that jasons kid who signed on today just to post a bunch of action pact messages that got progressively useless and full of just "KASdjkasdhkashdsukd" the more he posted.

So yes, you get to clean the board up since I may not be around at all here and there.

And I have ultimate veto since whoever gets chosen could potentially trash the whole board themselves.

Hah.

wow. um...i have a suggestion. how about people CAN'T nominate themselves. can you kick people out like tel did? another idea is to pick two or three people because there's no way one person can delete things. or have a sort of vote...like pick i don't know...ten or 15 people for everyone to vote on? another idea is to just pick people you think would do a good job, email them privately, and make the moderator thing anonymous.

i just don't know if that's the best way to pick a moderator. and i do think that people on the board in general should get to have some input into who gets omnipotent deletion powers via a vote of possible candidates or something. but i like the idea of anonymity best. so make the vote private and then yupi can contact the mods privately and then nobody can say "hey sloanfan is the nazi moderator she deletes EVERYthing to do with religion!" (just as an example you know).

I always thought one of the joys of the old (O)SMB(s) was that there was no *real* moderator. Sure there was a lot of rubbish, but if you don't like it, don't read it. Freedom of speech should be embraced by fans of the sloan. Besides, the people who have tended to be immature and annoying in the past, contributing nothing to the board whatsoever, didn't stick around that long...

Actually, what I should have said above is that it's not the fault of stupid people that they make stupid posts, as that's in their nature. What's stupid is people who should know better replying to those posts and giving people seeking attention exactly what they came here for - a reaction.

I started this whole thread so that folks can have some input on who should be a mod, and also someone can volunteer. While I have some idea of some folks who might be good, I don't really know any of you. The people I knew from the old board were mostly lurkers and don't come here.

And the mods can't be anonymous unless I hacked the board code some more and I think it's kind of good that they aren't.

General rules coming too I spose. There won't be really much other than NO MORE TROLLING. ALL TROLLING IN "THE OTHER MAN"

Seperate "Other Man" forum will be for those "Banned" from the General forum and trolling and garbage in general. "Banned" folks will only be able to post there, though everyone else will be able to too. And actually you can still get REALLY banned from the whole board if you really f' things up.

Mostly the mods, for now anyway, will just delete/move/edit posts since giving them the power to banish people to the other man forum etc. will require more hacks.

Those who I think will make good OSMB Moderators are as follows; Twink, Picode, Defensive, and Cram500

Reasons;

These individuals are posters who have posted posts that I have read, understood, and enjoyed. They post on a variety of subjects and respond according to what a response entails. Whether the post is about music or not. I don't recall a post where insults were made where insults were not required. There are a number of posters who can have their own forums based on what they post and how they respond. The posters that I have nominated could not have their own forum since OSMB general is their forum.

I am willing to nominate myself if the above don't volunteer themselves.

i think three moderators is a good number. i mean people go away and stuff. also wait for the week for more input cause i know lots of people only post from work. what i would do is wait a few days to see who's willing to do it and then set up a poll.

Thanks Raz, I suppose that's kind of flattering. I wouldn't mind doing it - but I certainly wasn't going to jump at the chance to volunteer myself. I'd think you'd make a good moderator as well.

I definitely think a poll is a good idea - as long as it's done fairly - then again, we (or maybe it was just Tel) always said, "this isn't a democracy."

I agree that there needs to be a moderator or two, and think the above nominated girls would be good at it (Cram, Picode, Raz).

I have to admit, I'm getting sick and tired of coming to read the board and every single thread, no matter what the topic, degenerates into "suck my dick", etc. I understand things will get off topic, but if I were an outsider coming here for the first time, my impression would be that Sloan fans are extremely sexually deprived and lacking intelligence, among other things. I'd like to be able to continue reading this board from work...at this rate, I can't because of the content.
