SHP's Ahoy! |
| Posted by: yupislyr Nov 30 2006, 09:28 PM |
| And they're playing the Bowery Ballroom in NYC on Thursday the 18th. Both go on sale tomorrow. I suppose I might go to the Detroit show but yet another turd of an album may have made me rich my tipping point with Sloan. Oh well... |

| Posted by: SHP Nov 30 2006, 10:19 PM |
| Okay PEOPLE!!!! What DAY is the 20th? Quick math time. January 1 is a Monday . . . 8, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. No fucking way!!!!! Saturday?! Detroit Rock City on a S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night! Shit, now I have to learn the new songs so as to not embarrass myself! Well . . . more than normal . . . Woooooooooooooooooo! Who's joining me? Yupi, come on, don't be a Debbie Downer! I say the Detroit Posse chows down at the Hard Rock and then just saunters across those two parking lots to the show! Okay, don't saunter. Walk quickly and orderly and don't point at strangers. |
| Posted by: SHP Nov 30 2006, 10:20 PM |
| Bala on Sept 30 would be just plain weird. |
| Posted by: SHP Nov 30 2006, 10:21 PM |
| I have to lose some weight! And buy some hot new outfit! And my hair always looks like shit in the winter. OMG. |
| Posted by: Manic for Murphy Nov 30 2006, 10:47 PM |
| A little excited, are we? |
| Posted by: SHP Nov 30 2006, 11:05 PM |
| Just a pinch. |
| Posted by: ChesterTheMolester Nov 30 2006, 11:40 PM |
| Well, the Pistons won too, so she's probably a tad overstimulated... |
| Posted by: Cajole Me Nov 30 2006, 11:48 PM | ||
We've been waiting all evening for your reaction. ETA: Well, that AND for somebody to get back from the show to make us insanely jealous. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:09 AM |
| It was totally weird around here tonight. I was the only one on the board for a while. No guests. No "I don't want people to know I'm on the board"s. Just ME! Pistons. Bah. Although they did beat those Miamis . . . Looks like the Oilers are in a strong division this year . . . |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 12:12 AM | ||
She is not the ONLY one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saturday YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:13 AM |
| I KNOW! Isn't that the most awesome thing EVER?! Detroit got the weekend this time. Oh god, I hope Ticketbastard isn't lying or anything! So Leah, will you be visiting the mother state that weekend? |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 12:17 AM | ||
Racerguy already said "yes".. I'll do some airfare shopping tomorrow. My pal (who you met with me the last Detroit show) has my bed made. Oh baby! And I can't wait to see you either Anne! |
| Posted by: ChesterTheMolester Dec 1 2006, 12:17 AM | ||
No shit! Not everyone can play the worst teams in the league eight times each... I kid. Go Wings. Or something. |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 12:20 AM | ||
And before I even read this I got the ok for Bala but that date is weird... That is not summer, it's in the school year...someone needs to check with Mike. Sept will make Sloancon more difficult. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:22 AM | ||||
Yea!!!!!! Leah!!!!! Chet, Chet, relax. I'm not yet officially caring about hockey yet! Enjoy your division lead! I'm not expecting much for this season from my team. But enough of that. Back to squeeing! SQUEEEEE! |
| Posted by: ChesterTheMolester Dec 1 2006, 12:23 AM |
| Leah: MSN, now. Anne: you, too, if you like. Also: do me. Wingsucker. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:24 AM |
| All right. It's past my bed time, and I have to disable, but you got about 15 minutes of me . . . |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 12:25 AM | ||
Are you coming to Detroit too Chetty??? Coming...coming..hang on... |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:27 AM | ||||
Leah! I'm shocked!!!! |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 12:32 AM | ||||||
Geez...I was NOT thinking that way, you have a mind like Guttergrl I am not! |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 12:34 AM |
| Chris thinks smut 24-7? See, this is why he's my guy! |
| Posted by: ChesterTheMolester Dec 1 2006, 12:39 AM | ||||
I might be coming in Detroit... Well? Someone had to say it... |
| Posted by: Cajole Me Dec 1 2006, 12:41 AM | ||||||
I was thinking more of on Detroit, but yours works. Besides, I don't know anyone named "Detroit" |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 01:11 AM | ||||||
Did they? honestly...I have to watch my word use constantly around you! Chetty |
| Posted by: Kickstart Dec 1 2006, 01:33 AM |
| WOO WOO! Reminder to self: go see parents in Windsor that weekend. |
| Posted by: Penchant for Pentland Dec 1 2006, 01:48 AM |
| I wanna go to Kicky!!! Lets think on it |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 01:50 AM | ||
I know there is a train from Toronto... |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 09:40 AM |
| You can take the train right to Windsor! I think there's even some dealy that takes you to the US via Port Huron. Maybe even Windsor has a crossing again. Who knows, it's been so long since I did the train thing. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 09:45 AM |
| Miranda's post over there in Kool House reminded me that St. Andrew's does NOT let you linger inside after shows. They suck donkey balls. It will be the middle of January. I don't know if the boys are going to be willing to stand around outside the venue to chat . . . So we'll HAVE to get on that bus! Haus. Whatever. It's a lame name! |
| Posted by: slmader Dec 1 2006, 09:54 AM | ||
No shit, Batman. That would make it practically impossible for me. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 10:02 AM |
| Yep, I hope that's an error. Maybe our trusty |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 1 2006, 01:23 PM | ||
There's no train crossing in Windsor, other than freight trains. You'd have to get off at the train station and then either bus it or taxi it across the border and on a Saturday afternoon/night I would recommend doing it as early as possible, unless you want to risk being late. I have plenty of room to drive folks over in my van if need be but at this point I'm probably not going and I will most likely be in Michigan already at the time anyway. |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 1 2006, 01:25 PM | ||
Yes, a goof. It's actually a listing for the cancelled show. ** C A N C E L L E D ** SLOAN LEGAL AGE 19/THEKEE.COM KEE TO BALA BALA, ONTARIO SAT SEPT 30/06 DRS 9PM |
| Posted by: Penchant for Pentland Dec 1 2006, 01:32 PM |
| That's what I thought. That was the show I was thinking about going to, but it was cancelled due to what I can only suspect would be low sales. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 01:35 PM |
| Oh yeah, that weird show from earlier this year. Well, I may be able to ferry some people over from Windsor, but I can't 100% guarantee it. |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 03:46 PM | ||
I will get people from Windsor- No problem. I will want to do some quick record shopping at the lovely Devonshire mall then wisk us away to St. Andrews. I was just looking at airfares- Unbelievable! Cheapest I have ever seen it in the 20 years I have been flying back *home* Of course maybe that is because I haven't flown back in January Also- Isn't it true that in 2007 you must have a passport? |
| Posted by: slmader Dec 1 2006, 05:12 PM |
| I think that's the other way 'round, Leah.... we have to have a passport to enter your country. |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 1 2006, 05:40 PM | ||
I am not sure but I think it is both ways..?? I have mine (first stamp NS |

I knew you would find the answer Lisa! |
| Posted by: Cajole Me Dec 1 2006, 06:21 PM |
| As a frequent border crosser, I can tell you that usually the Canadian guards don't even look at my passport most of the time, even if I offer it to them. The US ALWAYS asks and scans it. If you don't have one, the grill you that much more. Basically, they're assholes for the most part. Like, what, you're not gonna let me in to my country? |
| Posted by: ChesterTheMolester Dec 1 2006, 06:34 PM |
| It's 'cause everyone who isn't American is a terrorist. It's a well-known fact. |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 1 2006, 07:46 PM |
| Yeah, no one has to worry about passports at land crossings... yet. Like I said, traffic can be hit and miss but I recommend going as early as possible or checking traffic status online if you're near a computer. It's not uncommon for it to take an hour or more to cross into Detroit on a weekend afternoon. Use these sites to check traffic on the day: http://apps.cbp.gov/bwt/ http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/times/menu-e.html http://www.autoclubgroup.com/michigan/autos/traffic/report.asp?rid=10 http://www.ambassadorbridge.com/bridge-report.php http://www.dwtunnel.com/traffic.html And it looks like it has been decided that I'm going to that show now. Hah. So I suppose I may see some of you punks there. |
| Posted by: Jon L. Dec 1 2006, 07:49 PM |
| Great news! I'll definitely be there and drag some friends along!! |
| Posted by: Cajole Me Dec 1 2006, 08:14 PM | ||
I'm a US Citizen, so apparently everyone who is American is a terrorist as well. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 10:00 PM | ||
Starting Jan 1, 07, you need a passport to FLY into the US or Canada from the other country. Leah, if you fly to Detroit, no passport needed to drive to Windsor. Starting Jan 1, 08, you need a passport to drive into Canada or the US. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 10:01 PM | ||
Sweet!!!! Sorry, I see people posted passport poop. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 1 2006, 10:04 PM | ||||
I find the exact opposite. The Canadians are pretty nazi-like now. They didn't used to be. The Americans never even ASK to see my "paperwork" to let me back into the country. And they ALWAYS say, "welcome home". Makes me feel warm and fuzzy! And the Windsor crossings suck ass. I would suggest Sarnia, but that would make no sense, as St. Andrew's is what, 2 blocks from the Windsor Tunnel. They are also more expensive. Bastards! |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 2 2006, 12:55 AM | ||
Which I am- W00T! |
| Posted by: Cajole Me Dec 2 2006, 01:59 AM | ||||||
Wow...no one has ever said "Welcome Home" to me. Maybe they do this to confuse us who talk about them behind their backs ... "ok, you guys out west, be assholes, we'll be nice...no one will know what to expect" |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 2 2006, 02:09 AM | ||
Actually the land crossings passport requirement MIGHT start January 1st 2008. A change was made allowing it to be delayed up until June 1st, 2009 if need be. They're supposedly going to develop some kind of lower cost passport card for folks to use instead. And keep in mind that none of this applies at the Canadian border. There are no current plans to require passports for U.S. citizens entering Canada. Of course since you'd eventually need one to get back home it won't make a difference anyway. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 2 2006, 10:49 AM |
| Yeah, I thought WE were going to need that passport to get INTO Canada. That's what they're feeding us!!! But a delay would be good. Oh well, like a good lazy American, I don't need to worry about it yet. |
| Posted by: starless Dec 3 2006, 03:03 PM |
| well i'll be there! i like the new album now! (except most of chris' songs are stinkers) i'm super excited for a 'real' sloan show in detroit again! woooooooo. |

He did a pretty kick-ass one at the Thursday show, and I was surprised at the extension he got. I snapped a photo & actually got him in mid-air, but since I wasn't using flash it is a blurry mess of arms & legs. |
| Posted by: Sideburns Dave Dec 3 2006, 03:58 PM |
| I'd love to have that blurry mess of arms and legs in my bed.... |
| Posted by: bluefools Dec 3 2006, 06:21 PM | ||
You don't use flash? |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 3 2006, 09:59 PM | ||||
Can you join the posse and hang out and eat and all that good stuff? I'd love to meet you!!! I know you were in London last November, and I looked around and tried to guess who you were!!! |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 3 2006, 10:24 PM |
| Did any of ye Michiganders get your tickets yet? I already bought my new outfit! Black and red stripes, very 80's, very Loverboy... |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 3 2006, 10:31 PM |
| Ugh . . . no. Should I buy it now? It's never sold out . . . I mean: oh, first thing tomorrow I shall buy it! Loverboy, huh? Gag! Maybe to celebrate Detroit, I'll go in leather a la the Romantics! We could be QUITE the duo! |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 3 2006, 10:36 PM | ||
You own red leather? Impressive! Where are we dining that night SHP? I wish I was more punk like Anne but alas I will always be a new wavegrl. ETA: I'll buy my ticket tomorrow online. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 3 2006, 10:43 PM |
| No, no, I was joking! No red leather!!! And none of my punk stuff fits anymore. Sigh. Well, we could eat at: The Hard Rock Cheli's Chili Bar (Chris Chelios, the hockey player's place, next to Tig - er, Comerica Park. Never been there) Hockeytown Cafe Greektown, but I'd have to research it because I haven't eaten there in years! I don't know the good places anymore. I like the Hard Rock. It's a small one, but the menu is basic, and it's FUN to rock out to the music. Plus, it's VERY close to St. Andrew's. But, I'm open! (Knock it off, boys). I can research some more places if you want. |
| Posted by: Elias Dec 3 2006, 10:44 PM | ||||
Yeah, to go to Detroit you only need a flak-jacket. |
| Posted by: Elias Dec 3 2006, 10:45 PM | ||

| Posted by: Elias Dec 3 2006, 10:55 PM | ||||||
Seriously, there's a radio station here called WBAB, and for years, every Friday at 5 p.m. they would "Kick of the weekend," and play "That's what I like about you." That song, and "Old Time Rock and Roll" are 2 songs that I can't swithc off fast enough. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 3 2006, 10:57 PM | ||||||||||
Can't argue with you on THAT one! |
| Posted by: Elias Dec 3 2006, 10:57 PM | ||||||||
HA! Remember the video for that song? A couple of times there were close-ups of the lead singer, and he had a lisp worse than Cindy Brady's. "I hear the thecretht that you keep....When you're talking in your thleep.' |
| Posted by: Elias Dec 3 2006, 10:57 PM | ||||||||||||
That's right, you best not. |

When you're talking in your sleep. Oh good stuff. And look, Elias mentioned ANOTHER Detroit area favourite - Bob Seger! I ate at the next table from him once at a restaurant. My dad worked with his sax player's dad. I trick or treated at his manager's house. Yeah. Good stuff. Pffft. |

You know what cracks me up here is the station that starts the weekend with The Kings "switchin to glide" here in Phx.. Oh and call me lamegrl if you want..here I go- I loved the Romantics! BUT I hated "What I like about you" "National breakout" is a brilliant power pop record! |
| Posted by: maplegrl754 Dec 3 2006, 11:30 PM | ||
Carmen and Dave and I ate at the Ottawa Hard Rock- It was the place as the Yokos came in too! Sounds perfect- SMB meeting place in Detroit (fire arms optional) |

| Posted by: Penchant for Pentland Dec 4 2006, 06:52 PM |
| I'm generally afraid of Detroit based on everything I've ever heard. Crime wise that is. Maybe one of us should pack some heat. <insert pic of Pat brandishing weapons here> |
| Posted by: bluefools Dec 4 2006, 06:55 PM | ||
Yay!!! That's my girl! I don't know...I think it's all crap. I'm sure there is somewhere that is safe in D-town. Nothing screams: I'm safe 'cause I'm filled with doe-eyed tourists' like the Hard Rock does. You should be safe, especially if it's close to the venue and SHP's military grade tank. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 4 2006, 07:00 PM | ||||
Loverboy? Yes. Romantics? Totally Detroit's fault . . . oy. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 4 2006, 07:10 PM | ||||
Okay, so the Hard Rock is in a place they call Campus Martius, which is supposed to be a posh area of Detroit (zip it, Elias). But for the life of me, I couldn't figure out WHY they picked that name. Campus Martius was where the military used to camp, outside of Rome and across the Tiber. So how does that work in Detroit? Then it occured to me. The army was not allowed INTO Rome. They had to stay outside of it. See, the Detroit Campus Martius is where the suburbanites can go, and feel safe and OUTSIDE of the urban jungle known as Ro-er, Detroit. I don't know. There are beautiful areas of Detroit. Incredible old mansions and historic buildings. There are scary parts of Detroit. There are areas that would make you cry because they are run down and depressing and nasty. St Andrew's is downtown proper, near the business district and Greektown. There's also Fox Town nearby. It's all very safe and um - suburban friendly. Just go with someone who knows where to stay away from. Comerica Park is stunning. Ford Field is great. The Fox Theatre is beautiful. The Michigan Opera House is amazing. Cobo Hall, the casinos, Joe Louis Arena, the theatre district, Wayne State and the museums and library . . . all good things. Mexicantown . . . not so good. Great food but not so safe. Van Dyke near Jefferson . . . not so good. |

| Yeah, I figured I'd lost track of who the hell you were talking about 2 pages ago! Sorry! |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 4 2006, 08:27 PM | ||
It's way overblown. Sure the city has it's problems, but crime is not grossly out of proportion compared to other U.S. cities it's size like most everyone wants you to think. I've been visiting the Metro Detroit area on a regular basis since I was a teenager and nothing bad has ever happened. |
| Posted by: yupislyr Dec 4 2006, 08:30 PM | ||
The militia trained on that site in the late 1700's and it was named after a stockade in Ohio. It later formed the focal point of the new city street layout after a massive fire in the early 1800's. To get to 8 mile road from Campus Martius, you travel 8 miles, to get to 7 mile road it's 7 miles, etc. |
| Posted by: Penchant for Pentland Dec 4 2006, 08:33 PM |
| Good to hear. I was under the notion that it was the #1 city for gun violence, no? |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 4 2006, 10:05 PM | ||||
Well thank you for that! I was just jumping straight back to Rome and trying to figure out the connection! Good to know they dug up some Detroit history for the name. Miranda! Places like St Louis and Washington DC and New Orleans and Atlanta are also "gun-toting" places. Come on, now. Detroit is not a city where you see a gun in every belt! Like Yupi said, I've been going there since I was a kid. Knock on wood, I've never even SEEN a bad thing happen. You just have to know how to behave! In college, a bunch of us went to a Wings game. I was with people from NY and Wisconsin and - non-Detroit area Michigan. They wanted to go hootin' and hollarin' around the streets of Detroit like it was Ann Arbor! No! Mind your business, walk to where you're going, and don't stare at people loitering on the streets. Common sense. And really, downtown proper ain't no big thang! So, are you going to the Detroit show, Miranda? |
| Posted by: bluefools Dec 4 2006, 10:35 PM | ||
SHP is right - St. Louis, Gary, Atlanta, etc...come before Detroit. Seriously - there are other things more worrying. Like the show being cancelled due to snow |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 4 2006, 10:52 PM |
| That's not funny!!! Hell, last time they played St. Andrew's, there was a huge flippin' thunderstorm! |

Awww, come on |

Don't forget Baltimore. I feel like I should start singing "Dancing In The Streets" "They're doing it in Baltimore" "(Shooting In The Streets)" "Don't Forget The Motor City" |

So, you're to blame! |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 5 2006, 01:41 PM |

| Posted by: Elias Dec 5 2006, 01:45 PM | ||
It's all your fault. All of it. That's right, I said it. Bitch. |

| Most shows at St. Andrew's are All Ages. To drink, you show your ID at the door, and they handcuff you. To a hot bartender. Yep. For real. |

| I just ordered my ticket! I just ordered my ticket! Damn! $16.00 for the ticket, and $10.90 for other assorted bullshit. I even checked the free delivery option. Rip off. |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 23 2006, 04:20 PM |
| I got my ticket on Thursday! Ha! Leah, I have a cub scout thing that Saturday. I get to stand outside and freeze my ass off for four hours. It should be done around 1:00 or so, but I'll have to drop off my son, go home and shower and get warm, and then I should be available. Weee! |
| Posted by: Ruhee Dec 24 2006, 02:02 PM |
| Hey Anne, are tickets for this show only available through Ticketmaster? Or how does that work? |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 24 2006, 11:34 PM |
| Well . . . I'm sure they will be available at the door, too . . . Or you can go to a local place like Hudson's - no - Marshall Fields - no - Macy's to get tickets. You know, a place that does what Ticketmaster does. Except you're not local . . . If you're thinking about going, let me know, but I'm almost 100% sure there should be tickets at the door (because frankly, Sloan has a following here, but it's not THAT big!) |
| Posted by: youisfunny Dec 24 2006, 11:47 PM |
| I'll let you know. Plans are in the works, but nothing is final yet ... but yeah, I was going to try to get them from a Ticketmaster outlet or something here but I will let you know what the plans end up being |

Lay off, Leah... |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 26 2006, 08:52 AM |
| Chetty? Joining us for some Motor City loving? Sweetness! I can't wait! Now get THIS!!! (This shit only happens to me, I think). I FINALLY got my digital camera for Christmas! Go me!!!!!! First thing I yelled was, "Slooooooon!" I put the batteries in, set the date and time, tried one picture, erased it, and then decided to put the memory card in. I put said card in, closed the door, and pushed "power". My camera told me the card door was not closed. Not true! So I checked it all again. And again. And again. All day yesterday! I broke my brand new camera! Yea me!!!!! Don't know how, but it refuses to work because it insists the door is open!!!!! And yes, I tried it without the card, I tried new batteries, I did everything humanly possible. This is a test of my will, but I'm going to ace the motherfucker. Oh yes I will. |
| Posted by: mod maid Dec 26 2006, 07:41 PM |

E-mail JJ, quick!!! |
| Posted by: youisfunny Dec 26 2006, 11:08 PM |
| I think we might be coming to Detroit! GAAAAAHHH! Is the Hard Rock close to St Andrew's Hall? |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 26 2006, 11:08 PM |
| I thought of JJ when I got the camera! Scary, huh? But remember, Carmen? He has that new job in NYC, and he did NOT provide a forwarding address. Yeah, I guess I need to download the CD-rom thingy and find out what to do about a broken camera. Stupid thing! The batteries still work, because it turns ON . . . but NOOOOOO. The card door is fubared. Maybe there is an authorized repair place in the area . . . 'cause I hate packing things up and mailing them. Don't know why. I'm just weird! But I NEED it by Jan 20, damn it!!!! |
| Posted by: SHP Dec 26 2006, 11:10 PM | ||
Yes, it's about two parking lots and a street and a half away! It's totally walkable. Detroit is a weirdly laid out city! But hurray for the "we"!!! |

| Posted by: SHP Dec 31 2006, 06:34 PM |
| New Pentland? I didn't know that! But Starless, for sure, I'd love to meet you (and that Yupi guy, too!). Leah is flying in from AZ, and she's coming with her local friend (I think), and the Young Toronto crowd is coming! And I should have a working camera on the 20th!!!! I can't wait! The plan is to at LEAST meet at the Hard Rock (I'd say around 5:00ish, because doors are at 7:00). Carmen, my SMB list is not nearly as long as some others, but I'm working on it! Dave - I'll miss you! Adam - I'd kiss you! |

Ruhee, I got my tickets. I don't know if anyone answered this for you yet. At Toronto ticketmaster outlets, you can buy tickets for only TWO cities in the United States. New York and Detroit. WOOOOT! Make sure to bring CASH. You can't use debit or credit to purchase tickets for a show in the States. |
| Posted by: Snowsuit Sound Jan 2 2007, 11:33 AM |
| Does anybody have room in a vehicle for me? I'd love to join you! |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 2 2007, 11:43 AM |
| Thanks for that info, Daniel, it will save me a lot of trouble at Ticketmaster. Mandi, most of us are just taking the train or Greyhound. Natalia and I will be taking the latter, so if you've got the funds/opportunity, you're welcome to join us! |
| Posted by: Snowsuit Sound Jan 2 2007, 11:46 AM |
| Cool! When are you guys leaving? Are you coming back right after the show or crashing there for the night? |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 2 2007, 11:50 AM |
| Nat and I are spending the weekend with her family in Windsor, so we have to go back over the border after the show; we'll be coming back sometime Sunday afternoon I imagine, but I'm not sure if we're leaving Friday night or Saturday morning yet. |
| Posted by: mod maid Jan 2 2007, 01:08 PM |
| WOW- Detroit show has become a mini SMBcon for sure! I am there, I fly into Detroit on Thursday. I even have a hotel in Windsor! (My fear of driving in snow, none of my relatives live near concert venue.) I am planning on shopping CD stores in Windsor until we all meet up at Hard Rock. I am counting the days and practising wearing my new piano scarf! |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 2 2007, 01:09 PM |
| LEAH HAS A PIANO SCARF?! Natalia, we have to wear ours! Also, this little piggy wants to find the US version of Action Pact in Detroit if it is at all possible ... |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 2 2007, 01:29 PM |
| Wow, I'll have to research record stores in the extreme downtown area for you. Oh! Maybe the book store in the Hard Rock building (Compuware!) will have it. Wait, what am I saying?! Are you guys going to have transportation? How are you getting to Detroit from Windsor? - because I will worry about you guys just bumming around downtown for a few hours. |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 2 2007, 01:30 PM |
| Hey, it's no big deal. If we are in Detroit early enough I will give it a shot, but it is not going to kill me if not Actually I have no idea, Nat's the transportation brain for our trip, I'm taking care of the Sloan stuff. |
| Posted by: mod maid Jan 2 2007, 01:53 PM |
| Ruh, I will take care of that Action Pact for you, I doubt there are record stores in downtown Detroit. I wish I would have known, I saw one in the Tower records demise sales. I am available for anyone needing Windsor to Detroit transportation. I can send my credentials to any parents. (I am in charge of 40 18 year olds for a living...) I will be returning to Windsor post show. |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 2 2007, 01:55 PM |
| I'll be in touch then re: transportation depending on what my other half has got planned. |
| Posted by: Chris Sucked My Ring Pop Jan 2 2007, 03:43 PM |
| Is there anyone really crazy who would like to go to the Friday night in Buffalo show as well as the Saturday night in Detroit show? I figured it would be worth asking... |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 2 2007, 04:22 PM |
| I gave Dan some options, too, about the whole Detroit/Windsor thing (am I allowed to mention that on the board?) Leah and Windsorites - will we be able to hang after the show? Because don't forget: St Andrew's kicks people out ASAP after the show, and it will be cold outside, and I don't know how long the boys would be willing to give us their time. |
| Posted by: mod maid Jan 2 2007, 08:32 PM | ||
Absolutely! Are there other cool all ages places around or do we go back to Hard Rock? I'm game! I am getting really excited to get out of this 60 degree weather! (People always go South for the winter and here's wacko AZ girl here digging out her winter coat she hasn't seen in 7 years since my honeymoon in the Canadian Rockies) |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 3 2007, 12:13 AM |
| It was 46 degrees today, Leah! Seriously, we've had no snow, and it's been above freezing for over a month. And I LOVE it!!!! I will check into all ages places . . . yikes. I have no idea what places are near the venue! Greektown, but . . . we'll see. Does the Ren Cen still have all those shops inside? If so, there could be a record store there, but they WON'T have Sloan! I saw A-Sides and PT at Borders the other day. And I saw ring pops at Walmart tonight . . . |
| Posted by: Chris Sucked My Ring Pop Jan 4 2007, 10:57 AM |
| FYI, of the four flavours I included, Chris picked the Ring Pop in the blue package. |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 4 2007, 11:33 AM |

| Posted by: Chris Sucked My Ring Pop Jan 4 2007, 11:38 AM |
| Well since the Smeared photos are black and white, I'll go with the imagery of Chris with a blue Ring Pop. Dreaming of blueberry kisses... |
| Posted by: slmader Jan 4 2007, 11:46 AM |
| You are adorable. |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 4 2007, 12:09 PM |

True, but I've got a lot of points in the crude department for the whole "Chris sucked my Ring Pop" thing so maybe I can afford to be a little whimsical on the blueberry kisses. I'll let you know if I come up with a good Chris Murphy word play on the blueberry thing. |

| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 7 2007, 06:19 PM |
| GAH. LISA. You and I HAVE to go to a Sloan show together. I need someone else who is a Jay fanatic by my side! |
| Posted by: slmader Jan 7 2007, 09:36 PM |
| I think that would be extraordinarily dangerous. The room would implode from so much squee. |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 7 2007, 09:38 PM |
| But it would be ... SO AWESOME |

| Where are we at with Detroit numbers? Where are we hanging out after show? Roll call? Aleta, you can add yourself to this list with that feels good do me chick.. 8 days until I leave-woo hoo! |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 10 2007, 12:29 PM |
| 8 days to learn the new songs! Wooooo! Well . . . I offered to give the foreigners a tour of the City, if they wanted. I'm sure I'm available by 3:00, maybe even 2:00 ish . . . I don't think there's too many "all ages" places to go after the show. The Hard Rock may be a better AFTER show place . . . ??? Or we can just go back there? I know, I know, last night I thought about researching some other places right down town. Greektown is nearby, but . . . It's not too far to go up Woodward to Hockeytown to eat before the show . . . or Cheli's Chili Bar. It's open again. You all heard, right, that two of Chris' managers were killed in the restaurant. Horrible. He missed part of the Wings' west coast trip so he could stay and help their families. Leah - what is your thought on maybe driving up to Oakland Mall with the gang once you collect them? That way, if Ruhee wants to record shop, she can do it there at Borders. It's right on I-75 and 14 Mile. I could meet you guys there and then take some passengers off your hands. |

| Oh dear, don't make my casual comment about AP into a big deal, really! |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 10 2007, 12:35 PM |
| Riding in cars with punks. Awesome. Yeah, Borders probably wouldn't have a copy of the American AP. Canadian - maybe. American - nope. |
| Posted by: Sideburns Dave Jan 10 2007, 12:41 PM | ||
I learned most of them in one day, Carmen was amazed with that, Chris signed my NHTEOI with "Sing it Dave!" |
| Posted by: mod maid Jan 10 2007, 12:42 PM | ||
You have 10 days to learn, I am coming in on Thursday. Saturday is my record shopping day in Windsor. (Anne, Canadian record shopping is one of the few things I LIVE for..) I don't think Andi and I will be coming across the border until we all meet for dinner. I am not sure the size of my vehicle. Everything is kinda in the air still... There must be some other restaurants right around there if we go to the Hard Rock after. |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 10 2007, 12:50 PM |
| I'll search the downtown area online. Fox Town is just right up the street. *sounds like she's pushing for Hockeytown Cafe! Ha!* Yeah, 10 days. 'cept on weekends, I don't function beyond eating and sleeping. So Andi was NOT joking about going to the show. Awesome wicked, man! |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 10 2007, 12:54 PM |
| So. Leah, Anne, Andi, Ruhee, Natalia, Daniel, Marty, Yupi, Starless? Who else? Are all these people for sure? |
| Posted by: mod maid Jan 10 2007, 01:01 PM | ||
I believe April VomitJellyBean will be there, Working Aleta... Another certain someone is pending.. |

| STOP talking in riddles and tell me, the clueless mass of humanity!!! If it's the mystery guest from the Hamilton 06 trip, I will be so happy!!! |

Not sure about Marty. I've got my ticket. I'm either going to bus it straight into Detroit (if that's possible) or bus it to Windsor. I want to get there for early afternoon. I'll bum around for a while or whatever. It would be cool to meet up with Anne. If she wants to show us around town then I would definitely be up for that. For food places... I have no food allergies, and am good with anything basically. I'll try anything twice. However, Cheli's Chili might not be the best idea. Beans? That might be uncomfortable during the show. Don't get me wrong though, I love chili. Chili is appetizing, looking at pictures of Chelios' face while eating, not so much. hahaha I'm kidding around. Just pick a place you like Anne. If it's too hard to collaborate a before-show meeting then we can just hang out at the show and do something afterwards. If the Yoko Casionos are still opening for Sloan we can just converse during their set. Oops, did I say that? I'm sure they're wonderful people... Anne, I'm in your hands. |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 10 2007, 01:26 PM |
| I LOVE a compliant man! I will check the menu at Cheli's but um - I think it's more than just chili!!! You're so cute, Dan! And I KNOW your hatred of the Wings, so I'll work on some other suggestions. |
| Posted by: Danada Jan 10 2007, 01:35 PM | ||
hahahaha, it's cool. I didn't make the Chelios comment because of the Red Wings. I more made it because Chris Chelios is one ugly man. He might as well have gone into the restaurant business with http://www.cantstopthebleeding.com/img/ricci1120.jpg, http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/topstory/sports/brindamour-rod-194x194.jpg, http://www.ourtinyworld.com/kiko/topten/images/toptenuglyNBA/popeye_jones.jpg, and http://theeverydayjoe.com/uploaded_images/Nixon-thumb_1.jpg. Anyways, I'm down with that place too Anne! Don't go through any extra work on my account. Any place you like! |
| Posted by: SHP Jan 10 2007, 01:49 PM |
| Oh wow. Like, I'm using Mapquest and the handy nearby restaurant guide. Holy shit! When I get back to work, I will make a list with a brief description. Anyone have special food needs? Vegetarian? Vegan? |
| Posted by: Kickstart Jan 10 2007, 03:16 PM |
| UPDATE: One on-call, four-hour Saturday shift stands between Natalia and Sloan! Luckily, I've got a dude from work what owes me a favour. (I took a shift of his so he could go see In Flames...) |
| Posted by: youisfunny Jan 10 2007, 03:41 PM |
| GOOD I HOPE YOU CAN GET RID OF THAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS TRIP FOR AGES NOW. uh, so, party in Detroit. like. this is going to be amazing. LEAH, what certain someone are you on about?! |

| For those interested in food options in Detroit, I have found the following choices that may be interesting: Sweet Lorraine's - soups, pastas, seafood, vegetarian, wine/beer (they have one out in the suburbs, and it's good) Checker Bar and Grill - I've been here! A little Old Skool hamburger bar from the old days! Mostly hamburgers. Beware. Fishbones - nah, too swanky and expensive. Maverick's - calls themselves a casual steakhouse, but it smells pricy Detroit Beer Co - a sister local brew house to one I go to in Royal Oak. Should have good beer and a decent menu. Cheli's Chili Bar - went to the Web site! Appetizers, chili, salads, burgers, sandwiches, entres, Death by Chocolate. A sports bar. HockeyTown Cafe - pretty much the same as Cheli's, but obviously Red Wing oriented. Debate, oh soon-to-be-honourary-Detroiters! |

Death by chocolate? More like death by disgruntled employee! |
